Our current project is GIMME SHELTER, an urban art installation which spreads across the city of Berlin.

Kunst im öffentlichen Raum. GIMME SHELTER ist eine Ausstellung über die gesamte Stadt verteilt. The Artist Chris Valentien hat gemeinsam mit dem Künstlerkollektiv ’Brücke Brandenburg’ mehr als tausend Litfaßsäulen für ein paar Wochen zum Schweigen gebracht, indem er sie einfarbig plakatieren liess.
“Wir haben hier die grösste Skulpturen-Ausstellung geschaffen”, so Valentien, “durch die Reduktion auf die reine Form trägt jede einzelne Säule nun ihre skulpturale Objekthaftigkeit zur Schau.”
Nach der Aktion wird eine limitierte Auflage zum Verkauf stehen. Allerdings schränken die Künstler den Kreis möglicher Käufer ein. Sie haben nämlich verfügt, dass nur öffentlichen Museen und Sammlungen ein Objekt ankaufen können, Privatsammlern dagegen soll der Erwerb verwehrt bleiben.
The Berlinale Filmfestival puts the city into the spotlight, while artist and filmmaker Chris Valentien and his artist collective ’Brücke Brandenburg’ have realized a massive installation: the erection of hundreds of ’Litfaßsäulen’ in monochrome colors. The exhibition ’GIMME SHELTER — HEIMAT covers the whole city, running until late March. “The occupancy of public space”, the artist explains his concept, “aims at the diametric opposite between in-/exterior,’need/want’, ’purpose/non-purpose’. The pillars of advertisement muted. Becoming objects of beauty, there is silence in these monochrome ithyphallic remains in urban landscape, it almost feels spiritual”
After the exhibit a limited edition of 10 (+ 2 AP) pillars will hit the art market. There is a restriction built in: individual collectors are excluded from bidding, only public art organizations are eligible for acquisition.
